OTHER STUFF

There are a few tips and how-to's on the next page, but feel free to email me with questions. I have also included a few on-line resources that might help. The list isn't exhaustive, but something to get started with. Send your favorites along to me, as well!

STEP 4: GROWING & SHARING

Sign up on the contact form, follow us on Instagram, and check in here periodically. I will archive all the blocks, and post the location and evolution of the mosaics and flags. This is your art! Let's keep cheering each other on.

The next project will also show up in these here parts as well. Can't wait to see what that looks like!

STEP 3: SEND IT BACK

Sign the back of the block and send it my way! The community mosaic will start taking shape, and you will be there every step of the way.

If you decide to donate your cool and unique woodblock portrait for this project, you are technically allowing us to use, reproduce and incorporate the image into different projects along this theme. I guess that means we are asking for unrestricted use, without copyright stuff and all that. Likely that assumption makes sense with the goal and scope of the project, but I just wanted to put it out there. I won't be able to return any blocks after they are carved. Maybe you want to pull a few prints of your fabulous portrait before you send it my way?

STEP 2: THE FUN PART

You get your block in the mail!! yippee!

This is the part where your participation is really special: what do you want to convey with your portrait? Who do you want to depict and share with the project? Start drawing! start carving!

You can either:

-- draw and carve the portrait onto the woodblock.

OR --just draw the portrait and send it back to us to carve.

There are very few guidelines for the portrait. When it's printed, it will only be in one color, so a black and white drawing will be most common. Woodblock printing by nature is pretty graphic and bold. Nothing obscene or dicey, of course. You will be restricted to using the blocks I ordered for this project. (They all need to be the same thickness for printing). Not too bad, eh?

STEP 1: SIGN UP!!

The cost to participate is a mere $5- covering postage/shipping and the cost of the block.

If you live in the metro Chicago area, and there is a reasonable chance our paths will cross, then no charge! Maybe you wanna spring for a cuppa coffee? That would be OK instead of a registration fee.
