ONETHOUSANDFACES is a community portrait project. It is open to anyone who wishes to participate.

Participants prepare a small printmaking woodblock for a relief print of a face: self-portrait, someone you know, admire or imagine. Individuals are welcome to carve more than one portrait block.

The blocks are mailed in, and a large-scale print will be produced by joining all the individual blocks. The blocks will be printed both on paper and fabric. The latter will be printed to produce installation "flags" of our communities.

The first project will combine all of our small woodblock print portraits into a large mosaic print. Brought together on both paper and fabric, the work will emerge as both statement and community flag. The beauty of working with prints is the ability to reproduce and reproduce, and keep sharing.

Later projects will use different media as portraiture..altered photos, textiles, ink, paint, etc.

How to get involved:

You raise your hand and say "I'm in!". I send you supplies. You send your art back to me. Then, we weave together a large scale, mosaic relief print of portraits reflecting our communities and people.
